The uKhahlamba Drakensberg Park was declared a World Heritage Siteon the 29th November 2000. The sharp mountain peaks inspired the Zulu people and the mountain range was called “uKhahlamba”. uKhahlamba means  “Barrier of Spears Pointing to the Sky”.  Other names for the mountain are  “Drakensberg” or “Dragon Mountain” given by the Voortrekkers (Dutch pioneers), because it resembled the back of a dragon.
